Reading it right now, seems really good... far more accurate than Monkey Business
same here just started reading it
thinkin of readin it.. let me know how it is
An alum who is the global head of real estate ibanking for a BB came to my school for an info session and said his friend wrote this book. Additionally, he found it to be spot on so take that for what it's worth.
But more for the fact that alot of it is like taking a course on GS/MS history.
Started the book, seams like a good informative, but Monkey Business and Liar's Poker will always have the humor edge.

Received this book as a Christmas Present. So far it's a very good read, well written. Although it isn't as comical as Monkey Business, it's a good read on what banking is actually like.
yeah, it's like the serious, boring version of Monkey Business
I am on the chapter " what investment bankers really do" ;)
boring, I have enjoyed it so far. If you work in banking you can relate to alot of it.
I just got that book in the mail today along with "Fiasco" and "Ugly Americans."
Any comments on "Fiasco" and "Ugly Americans?"
not too bad
TAIB is a good read if you're interested in the history and culture of GS and MS. Ugly Americans reads very fast, like a novel. If you read Bringing Down the House and liked it, you'll probably like UA.
fiasco is a great read. it also provides great insight to derivatives and what they are capable of (un)doing. i enjoyed it alot, but i work in structured finance, so i have a slight bias. if you've ever heard someone talk about "ripping someone's face off" the book uses the phrase alot.
I agree - it was a good read. It also goes to show that many people with zero experience in banking out of school can turn into great bankers later in their careers. That path is rarely talked about in depth.
Monkey Business was written by a guy who went into banking for the dollars like the current MBA rush who join, get shit on by analysts and hate their life.
To what extent do those opportunities still exist for career switchers out of b-school.
u can pretty much get into IB market is ridiculous
Thanks for the comments guys.
I began reading the AIB, and while it's a good read, if you've been in the industry for more than a couple of years it's old-stuff. The sarcasm, at times, is quite good and will make you chuckle... but net-net the book can drag at times if you've been in the business for while, like I said. (NOTE - I'm only 40 pages deep).
FYI: opticalcharge is clearly a banker b/c he said "net, net" which is TOTALLY a banker expression :-)
Hey now, I don't want to re-invent the wheel with new terms!! haha
look forward to read it
I've read most of the books mentioned, but I just finished Ugly Americans and it was unreal. I read it in a day - couldn't put it down. I love stories of hedge fund cowboys...
