The most dangerous question in the world - "Why?"

For if you ask it enough times (towards any "fact"), repeatedly and relentlessly (dozens of times if necessary), the conclusion you arrive at is often (almost always) dark and controversial.

Yet almost always, it is the absolute truth.

Never let bullshit and "political correctness" obscure the quest for said truth.
Regardless of social, economic, or physical repercussions.

==

We spend our days investigating menial, manmade, "complex" issues (it seems we create problems to solve, hence contributing to GDP growth and "added value", all of which is, in the grand scheme of things, absolute bullshit) while neglecting some of the most basic questions (of which the answers are elusive to many).

Why do you go to work?
Why don't you tell your boss he's a dumb degenerate fuck?
Why do you like money?
Why are we alive? Why don't humans murder each other rampantly?
Why are you scared to die?
[and to any response, ask "Why?" again, and again, exhaustively].

But I digress. This is the wrong forum. You guys are the antithesis to agnostic, truth based philosophical thought.

~ Noam Chomsky

I've noticed this exact same thing when thinking deeply. You can ask why(most people never question why, they just conform or accept what it is they're doing) repeatedly until you realize everything goes back to human core desires of happiness, survival and reproduction and anything that will aid in doing those things. 1)Why do we want to have a good job? To make good money and enjoy our work. Why? So we can be financially comfortable and happy. Why? So we have enough money for things we like, for our families(if you decide to have one) and to better attract a woman(money=security and a provider). Why? To aid with survival, reproduction and happiness.

2)Why do we want to look good in style, our looks and dress? So we get treated better, get better service, get more looks from women, and so we are presentable and professional. Why? So we have a higher chance of impressing at work and attracting a woman. Why? So we are happier from being treated better and reproduction from more chances of women via more looks/being more presentable. Also, reproducing is more of a chance of survival of genes.

These are just 2 quick examples but if you keep asking Why? i've noticed that everything goes back to happiness, survival and reproduction.

Yeah, pretty much goes to Maslow's Hierarchy of needs:

The whys don’t have end up at a dark and controversial path and when they do (especially in a context like this where nobody’s actually engaging in more than a cursory examination and relevant thinkers are rarely and at best sited but not thoroughly explored) it’s often because the questioner is ignoring the actually interesting questions in favor of the edgy “non-politically correct” conclusions. Often the way out can be found by asking not just why but also how: how is it that despite the fact that biologically we are animals striving for survival and dominance we are also able to find connections that are meaningful to us and which sometimes cause us to ignore this biological imperative? How is it that people finding meaning in things like art, science, philosophy, lliterature, and even more banal pursuits even when they’re not particularly useful for survival or dominance? How is our society set up so that individuals’ survival and dominance intstincts complement these other “higher” pursuits? If you think something’s fucked up how did it become that way and how do we fix it?

It’s easy to lock yourself in a stove and throw everything into doubt, the real interesting work starts when you get out and try to put everything together again.

Asking why only shows your personality. There's always a million directions you can answer "why". You go to sex or money or survival, Feynman goes into particle physics, and your mom goes to my nutsack.

I'm not saying it's an exercise in futility, but it's no secret to how the world works.

Sometimes I wish I was in a battle during the Viking times. Feel like I could have taken out at least 8 dudes before I met my end.

Absolute truths don't exist... celebrated opinions do.
