The Reality of Breaking Into Finance

The real question is some of us are not born into wealth and school is a HUGE expense. Breaking into finance is nearly impossible without it so I ask, do you think putting yourself in a LOT of debt is worth it? You need school to get a job, but you need money to go to school, but you need a job to pay for school. In other words...... most of us get screwed in this endless cycle.

I wouldn’t say a lot of debt is worth it unless you can guarantee a return on that. Plus, with your work ethic you can most likely break in some other way without having a 500 credit score before 22.

Thanks for the response! I agree that going into too much debt is never worth it but to some extent you can never guarantee a return on investment. I will definitely pay it back no matter what it is but it almost seems like it’s not worth it. It bothers me that I might graduate college late but it would bother me even more if I graduated a year early and had debt up to my neck

I personally had to take out many loans and can say it wasn’t worth it. And that was before student loans today which are far worse. My best advice is to not rush these things but keep up the momentum.

If you don’t mind me asking what made you take 3 offers at the same time?

1 I had previously started a few months back and it will be ending soon and the other 2 I could not refuse. They both would have good variety and uniqueness for my resume. I also applied to the last one thinking it was a long shot and saw hundreds of ppl had applied on linked in. The interviews were stellar and I really liked it but it’s unpaid. Hopefully all of this added experience will pay for itself down the road.

I see, well I did not go to a target school myself and many people on here seem to have gone to other places too. I went to a state school and lived at home with my parents until I graduated. In the summers I would get internships but they were never far enough that I had the same kind of expenses as you. Your story itself would impress me and I’m sure you’re going to attract the right kind of jobs after this summer and your bachelors. My main struggle was the cost of college itself because the way my parents did their taxes and all screwed me on the fafsa. Needless to say they were to cheap to pay and I screwed around in high school too much to get the financial aid I needed so I volunteered a ton and that helped me get scholarships. Out situations are different but I can relate to you in my parents not having the funds for me fully
