Thoughts on Guggenheim?
Anyone have any intern experience at Guggenheim (IB) or any insights on the interview process?
Not much info on them aside from the fact that they own the Dodgers

From what I remember, Guggenheim has a pretty intense OCR process - they do 1 hour interviews versus 30 mins and are very heavy on technicals.
Guggenheim has been building out their IB platform over the past few years. They are really very good at doing complex securitization financings and ABS originations. The advisory side has a strong deal flow but the size of the deals can vary significantly. I have heard junior bankers get worked pretty hard there with long hours and weekend work. Guggenheim has one of the more rigorous interview processes. I know few guys that interviewed for IB SA roles that did not make it past the 1st round. I have interviewed for positions in the Santa Monica office for the Asset Management business and they were some of the hardest interviews I have gone through.
Heard it's a sweatshop...
strange to see what you guys have heard about Guggenheim. I had a few friends intern there this summer and they had too many interns and not enough staffings. for the most part my friends were bored out of their minds haha
I actually heard the exact same thing as well from a friend at Guggenheim who interned this summer. Of course some interns were busy, but the pitch / live work didn't match the size of the intern class, leading to some people in his class not having much to do. Could just be that Guggenheim overhired for the summer or had a lighter amount of dealflow this summer than normal .
They hired 40+ summers since they are about to hire more senior people and are looking to build out their RX platform
As it stands today, Guggenheim HC is third on the street for US M&A deal revenue in 2017, behind JPM and GS.
The other focus of the firm is TMT, where they use strong senior relationships to get on mega deals in Media and Telecom.
Where are they overall on the street in US M&A?
I have done business with them in Houston in their O&G lev fin group. Great resource for me and my clients. Seemed pretty "down to earth" in that group and I always like the way they look at assets and cash flow. Know one of their MD's in real estate in NYC casually but never did a deal with him.
The silverback in me encourages you to explore explore explore..... sorry I can't be more specific.
........
Any other groups a priority besides HC and TMT?
If Guggenheim was a BB, which one would it be closest to in terms of prestige?
