Thoughts on how this interview went?
Had an interview a few hours ago with a boutique for an intern/analyst position. Team are all ex BB bankers, and they've won some pretty big mandates given the size of their firm (around 12 people in total).
So I had an interview with two directors which lasted 15 minutes. What threw me off was how, how shall I say, curt, they were. From their entry into the room, they were straight to the point with me ("tell us about yourself, show us your previous valuation work, walk us through a DCF" etc.). All of which I answered pretty well I think.
I'm usually used to interviewers being a bit more chatty and talking up themselves and their firm, but none of that happened. I'd say 90% of that interview was showing them previous work I've completed at my current internship. And what's even stranger, they didn't even mention the details of the role or the sort of work I'd be doing with them.
What's more, I sent them both an email thanking them for their time, hoping to get a bit more detail out of them about the role, but all I got back was a "thank you". I understand bankers are busy and shit, but this was on some other shit.
They were polite, but very blunt, and didn't talk about the firm whatsoever. What do you think this all usually means? Is it safe to say they didn't like me from their first impression? Should I email them again in a few days asking about the role and where I stand?
By no means is this definitely what happened, but it may be that they had already 'unofficially' chosen someone to move on/get hired and that they were simply interviewing you as a formality. Was it an on-campus interview?
Nah so what happened was I applied to this place via a cold email almost 2 months ago. Last week I got a call from them telling me I have an interview. They later sent me an email asking me to bring any pitch books and valuation work I had previously done, and if I didn't have it would be ok. The email was titled "Dear Candidates", so I'm guessing there are other people being interviewed, but I dunno more than that.
Most of my SA interviews were similar. I got offered a month after interviewing and never received a response to my thank you emails.
Hope I'm in the same bucket as you.
Some people are strange. When I was interviewing for SA, one guy pretty much told me I was getting the job and I didn't get it. One guy said "good luck wherever you end up" and I got the offer. Wait and see, you did what you could, out of your hands now.
