Thoughts on leaving IB after 12 months
Recruiters told me that the sweet spot to leave IB for a role in PE (in Europe) seems to have decreased to 15-18 months, and that there are more and more PE shops already hiring people with only 12 months of IB experience under their belts.
Any thoughts on leaving IB after 12 months for a junior PE role vs. leaving after your "normal" 18 months?
If you have an exit lined up, then leave.
If you believe you can get the dream role in PE without having one lined up, then leave.
But listening to recruiters alone won't help you that much.
If you start interviewing 90 days from now or a bit later, not sure how much more you'd learn in those months.
The job market is fairly good atm, so I can imagine you could land the PE role quickly if you network/apply the right way.
Bump
Personally, I have found the job gets significantly easier after a year since you then have first years to manage. I think a year and a half is really the sweet spot.
