Thoughts on the new "Securities Industry Essentials" exam? Helpful to pursuing IB career?
I recently heard about a new exam from the FINRA called the Securities Industry Essentials (SIE) exam. It's similar to the series 7 exam, but it's a shorter, more basic version (hence "essentials"). It comes out Oct. 1, costs $60, and is only 105 minutes. The other important distinction is that the SIE exam, unlike the series 7, does not require a sponsor. This means that someone like myself, who just finished their freshman year in college, at least has the opportunity to attempt the test. I realize that this alone will not land you a job. I realize all of the other factors that are far superior to this one (target school? GPA? Internships?). But, do you guys think that this would be worth pursuing just as an added bonus to my resume? do you think it shows enough initiative to be relevant?
