Thoughts on these 2 watches
I'm planning to replace my current watch with a piece from Baume and Mercier. They are the only watches that I like and the Classima collection is just what I'm looking for.

I'm sure you'll enjoy either of them.
never heard of baume and mercier, probably not that great then. get a rolex or omega -- everyone knows those are the best (omega a little behind rolex so you get what you pay fore)
ricochetX has no idea what he's talking about.
the have the first one without the window. my two associates and even an MD complimented me on the watch.
people who know watches know B&M. laymen won't.
ya the chrono looks nice too. either way it's a good choice, although i'm not a fan of the window.
i know the former has a skeletal back, not sure about the chrono
B&M is a great brand. Taking a look at both watches, they are both nice - if you've tried them both on and still can't decide, I like the 1st one a bit better than the 2nd - just in terms of simplicity while maintaining elegance. Again, both are nice watches - if you haven't tried them both on, then do so first.
I like the first one the best, simple and classy
agreed with BoB and MMBinNC. again, i have the first one without the window. chrono looks good, but a simple, classic and clean watch cannot be beat. i would highly suggest it.
The Chrono is very thick (bulky) something to consider. Beautiful watches, can't go wrong with either.
How can Baume & Mercier be the only brand you like? Every one of their models is a rip-off of a watch from a genuinely reputable, high-end maker--which they themselves are most certainly not. The two you've linked are blatantly reminiscent of the Villeret series from Blancpain. The first is pretty atrocious, honestly. It exposes part of the balance wheel through the dial, which is a cheesy attempt to mimic an exposed tourbillion complication on watches that typically run over $60k. It's like installing a hood with a glass opening on your Camry to show-off the engine because you saw the same thing done in a Ferrari or Lamborghini. Nobody wants to see your plastic-encased inline-4, whose only technical merit is that it gets 31 mpg, and nobody wants to see the roughly-finished balance wheel of a mass-produced ebauche, designed for ease of manufacture, not beauty.
It's a pretty good rule of thumb the only mechanical watches worth buying are under $300 and over $3,000. Everything in between tends to be a waste since they use the same stock ETA movements. When you buy a Baume & Mercier, you're paying a $1000 premium for faux prestige that's been incubated exclusively in suburban shopping malls.
Sorry if I'm being brutally harsh: I'm just trying really hard to prevent you from getting either of these watches. Either would be a real waste. If you want a simple, tasteful, far more honest dress watch with a mechanical movement, take a look at the Seiko Spirit. It goes for about $300 and is substantively superior.
This man here knows precisely what hes talking about.
Go In-House or GTFO
Seriously there are only two watches that are really reputable -- Rolex and Omega, maybe Tag and Torneau if you want to go lower on the pole. Why settle when you can get the best? You can get a Rolex for under that 10k price
This is silly. Rolex and Omega both make respectable sporty watches, but they are pretty low on the totem pole of fine watchmaking. Now, I'm no Rolex hater--I like the Explorer I and the Submariner--but few things are more repugnant to me than a gold Datejust decked out in diamonds. It's no different from a souped up Dodge Durango with chromed rims.
Tourneau is a watch retailer. They don't make their own watches; they subcontract production and then slap their name on. The watches are unremarkable and, while I'm not into brand projecting to begin with, I have no idea why anyone would want to show-off that he got his watch from the Best Buy of fine timepieces.
Tag is little better than Baume & Mercier. All ETA ebauches, unmodified, with a premium tacked on for suburban mall-incubated faux prestige. The upside is that they have some legitimately semi-classic models, like the Monaco. Too bad they are so overpriced and materially pedestrian.
In the $3,000 to $100,000 range, there are countless options to consider: IWC, Jaeger LeCoultre, A. Lange, Patek, Audemars Piguet, Vacheron, etc. And those are just a handful of the major 'manufactures' (firms that make their own movements). There are also all the boutique makers to look at, like F.P. Journe and Richard Mille. Ignore rankings at this level--it really comes down to personal taste.
If you want to spend around $3,000 and you want a classic dress watch, take a look at a steel Jaeger LeCoultre Master Control or Reverso. Impeccably classic, and a giant bang for the buck.
Hahaha jd, you beat me to it. Rolex and Omega are very mainstream names people that those who don't know watches would think of first as quality watch brands. But those who are appreciative/know watches also know the brands jd mentioned above, along with quite a few other names.
Thanks guys. I was leaning towards the 2nd one but I still can't decide and will take a look at the first one in person again this week.
wtf why would you get a B&M its a real oddball brand. Its kinda like the SAAB of watches.
My advice: Go pre-owned (you will save a SHIT LOAD) and get a nice JLC or IWC. Forget Rolex or Omega, they are way too common (unless you are going vintage rolex)
PRE OWNED JLC IWC = YOU DA MAN
Where do you suggest buying pre-owned watches??
