Tips to Successfully Prepare for a One-Way Video Interview

The one-way interview is now becoming a standard hiring process. Big companies such as Apple, Amazon, Google, and Twitter have started hiring using one-way video interviews. While video interviews are becoming more common, they might become a bit stressful for first-time users.

As you might expect, the one-way interviews also have a few difficult questions to test the candidate’s skills. Your every response will be analyzed by the recruiters to check if you fit the company’s culture. Here are some suggestions to help prepare for the one-way video interview.

Test the Camera and Microphone

Start by checking if your camera and microphone are working. In some cases, due to technical glitches, the camera or microphone does not work. It often causes panic and affects the candidate’s interview. So, you should start the preparation by testing the audio and video.

Dress like going for an in-person interview

Every candidate should dress like they are going for an in-person interview. Even if someone is not going to see you live, they will indeed watch your recordings. If you do not create a good first impression on the pre-recorded video interview platform (jobma), you will not be shortlisted for the final rounds.

When you dress appropriately, it will make you look more professional and show that you are serious about the job. It will also boost your confidence when you appear in the one-way video interview.

Prepare to answer the standard interview questions

In some cases, the interviewers can share the questions beforehand, which makes preparation easier. If you don’t get any questions, you can still prepare yourself by practicing the standard interview questions. These questions help the employers to learn which candidate fits more into the office culture.

  • Tell me about yourself
  • What do you like most about our company?
  • Where do you see yourself in five years?
  • What are your strengths and weaknesses?

Read the instructions carefully

When you receive the link for the one-way video interview, it will be shared along with some instructions. Many candidates often avoid reading them and start to practice for their answers. It might cause trouble later on as the instructions can have details like login credentials.

The recruiters will also notice such things when a candidate does not pay attention to details. So, avoid making this beginner’s mistake, which can badly impact your interview.

Keep rehearsing to become comfortable in front of the camera

At last, when you keep preparing for the interview, it will make you more confident. You will not get nervous in front of the camera and keep doing your best while answering the questions. Try to practice your answers and adjust your voice tone, word choices, or anything else to perform exceptionally well in the interview.

Be more confident in your first pre-recorded video interview by following these tips. Everyone can take on unnecessary pressure when trying something new. If the recruitment company uses a professional tool like Jobma, you can get options to re-record the video. You will also get the setting to practice before starting the interview.

Just had my trade dispute rejected by Schwab for a loss of 35k. This single issue alone should be a gigantic red flag to anyone who trades on their platform. If they have a system error, and you do not video record your trading (they actually said this), they will not honour their fuck up. Switching everything away from them. Fuck this company.
