Tips/Advice from transitioning into REPE from valuations

Title says it all. I am currently a first year analyst at a large valuation/advisory firm. I enjoy what I am doing currently (getting lots of great exposure to markets around the U.S, different product types, Argus, and Excel), but eventually want to transition to be on the buy side of the action. What particular skills should I be honed in on improving that are transferable to REPE? How should I market myself to these firms when I start applying for new jobs? Any advice helps. Thank you!
