To which department did I apply?
This may sound stupid to some of you: I applied for 30+ IBs and got a first round interview with Morgan Stanley next week, for summer internship in London. The position I applied for is called "Equity Research Summer Analyst Programme".
I just realized that I'm not sure what department I applied to. From what I can make out of from MS homepage it's a part of "Sales & Trading". Is this true or is it possible that it's research in another department?
Please don't throw any monkey shit at me, a simple answer will do :D
You applied to Equity Research, which is DEFINITELY not a part of S&T (that would be illegal - Chinese Walls and all). ER is its own department. That said, I know MS has been moving London applicants who applied for ER this year and interviewing them for S&T, so that might well be what happened to you.
Ok, thanks! Another silly one: Does ER fall under IB or Corp Finance? or both?
it falls under equity research
you wont be executing a merger, underwriting an ipo or any of that crap. youll be researching and analyzing stocks. you take all the information you can find, then present it and interpret it. not every investor can analyze every stock, so equity research departments and firms do the research for the people looking to invest
