Tolerance for mistakes as a Summer Associate
Just finished week one of my internship at an EB. I feel like 80-90% of what I produce is totally accurate but there’s another 10-20% where I feel minor errors slip through the cracks and get caught on review by the Associate.
I know the goal is to be as close to 100% as possible and to not make the same mistake twice.
For those full timers out there, what’s the tolerance for this and any tips to get closer to that 100% figure?
Write down every mistake you make in a log, e.g. in Excel, and every document you make, go through your log and double check to make sure you don't make the same mistake twice.
offer to buy that associate lunch/drinks because his input will likely matter to a certain extent when md does performance reviews
agree with above post, write down the mistakes in your phone notepad or something to make sure it doesn’t happen again. if it does, just own up to it
Agree with the posts above and keep a log of your mistakes. I would also keep marked up copies of decks to physically see what I did and keep as a reference for future work. I think the biggest thing is really like you said and not make the same mistake twice.
You're completely fine. My MBA associate who's been here for three years makes even more mistakes than that. I can only imagine how bad he was as a summer
VERY HARD TO FIND ASSOCIATES WHO WANT TO GO INTO IB AFTER MBA.
That is why you firm decided to take him on. I know you are talking about him and he sucks but is fine. What can the firm do?

Haha
You’re fine. Limit mistakes as much as you can - but it’s more important to work hard, have a good attitude, and to be genuinely curious.
