Too Bold or Not Bold Enough?

A few weeks ago I reached out to an alumni about a real estate investment analyst position (boutique/MM). She was very helpful and spent a lot of time talking to me and giving advice. After that, she personally reviewed my resume, and sent it to the recruiter for the firm. In her email she said I would be an excellent candidate...yada..yada. She put in a nice word with the recruiter and told the recruiter to give me a phone call. I didn't hear back from the recruiter for two weeks, so I sent a follow-up email and CCed the alumni, still no response. Should I try to call the recruiter this week and get her on the phone or is it a lost cause? Seems weird the recruiter would not respond at all after the introduction from someone high up in the firm...

Any ideas?

Best Response

A few possibilities:

  • They hired someone else / not hiring anymore
  • They haven't started the process yet and you will be contacted once they start
  • They are in the process but you have somehow gotten forgotten

What I would do is wait a few days and if she doesn't reply to your email, give her a call. Given that you have spoken with her already, it should be ok to call her up again.
