Too cheap for vacations?

Of the crowd here in their early/mid 20's, what's the maximum you would be comfortable spending on a vacation? (Either in straight dollar amounts or a % of income).

I have more than enough vacation time, and tend be to content having some lazy days at home to relax. However, now I have the opportunity to take about 3 weeks (maaaaybe 4 if I push it) off to go on some crazy trip that could end up costing $4k to $6k+ after everything is said and done.

However, with entrepreneurial dreams and the possibility of grad school on the horizon (not to mention saving for the ever-distant retirement), I'd like to know who here would save the cash or spend it?

Everyone needs a vacation once in a while it's good for the brain. Plus you can get away for a week in Mexico and stay at a really nice place for less than $1500, if you're a smart shopper that is.

5-10% of annual income on vacation. However, I'm for adventurous vacations not just lie on the beach, eat and drink. I like to go explore mountains, cultures, cities. Exploration is the reason for my vacations not rest.

Do what you want not what you can!

$2,000-$3,000/week for an international trip. Probably $1,000-$1,500/week for a domestic trip. This is all-in (airfare, lodging, food, drinks, entry fares, whatever).

With total comp around 65k in a high COL city, I wouldn't spend more than 1500 a year on vacation. This year I'm spending 600 on a ski trip where I'm saving a ton of money splitting costs with a bunch if guys. And 800 on climbing mt rainier where I'm saving money because my dad is paying most of it since we are doing it together.

if I had loans I had to pay off or a startup idea I needed to fund within 12-18 months, i probably wouldn't splurge but if grad school is still a few years away and your dreams are just that, it probably more important to stay sane if you have the time (3 weeks) travel cheap - hostels and street food and fly somewhere sick (asia with 3-4 day layovers at your connections is what I would do) If you polled the analysts in my group, the majority would give up 10%+ of their bonus to be able to take a week off
