Too late for a summer internship?
It took me a while to figure out that I wanted to do an internship this summer instead of a study abroad/service oriented international trip. It has proven difficult to find an internship. I think I am qualified and extremely motivated, but it's hard to keep looking when shooting apps out just results in dead-ends. Is it too late? Should I make other plans? Should I just start cold-calling/emailing different firms?
What kind of internship? If IB, start researching & cold-calling boutiques ASAP
Formal programs are probably off the table at this point. You have a chance cold-calling boutique IBs or small buyside shops and trying to set something informal up. Your best shot is going to be networking though: get someone to make an introduction and then send a short note to get on the phone with your res. On the phone call you need to show 1) a genuine interest in their business 2) that you have done your research and understand their niche and 3) that you will be decent to talk to and will work super hard for no money.
Should have mentioned that I'm a current sophomore, and I would really take anything -- IB, PE, PWM, equity research, you name it, I'll take it. corporate finance, etc.
It's never too late. Is your college or hometown around a decent sized city? Use linkedin/google/etc to find boutique companies.
School in the Chicago area, home in the NY area. I could do either of those, but prefer Chicago. I'm still applying through company portals/university career services, but e-mailing boutique banks and private equity firms is my next-best bet?
Hey mate,
I'm in a similar situation. Sent a bunch of cold e-mails but it seems like majority of the firms are done hiring for the summer. I also go to school in Chicago area.
I know for a fact that there are some boutique IBs in chicago that are still recruiting. Look harder and keep networking.
Thanks for this information! Good to know that there are some boutiques in Chicago are still hiring. I guess I haven't been looking hard enough.
Does anybody have any advice for somebody who wants to do S&T? (particularly trading) I'm still interviewing, but I'm looking for backup.
It's not too late by a long shot. Keep trying, keep networking. Friends of mine have received both BB and EB summer offers as late as May. Hell one kid even managed to land a summer spot at a top tier >$20B HF in early June.
If I'm cold emailing boutiques is it better to be explicit about looking for an internship or rather ask for an informational interview and then bring it up during the conversation?
Check the search bar for cold email tips, there's a lot of great info.
I would try get an informational interview set up first. This will stop them from directing you to HR, who typically say no to unofficial internships.
You still have time, I landed a lower mm ib gig late into April, but that was through a good contact and didn't pay. Keep hitting the payment and don't give up
I have a few boutique interviews coming up the next few weeks so its definitely not too late
I'm in a similar situation. Basically cold emailing PWM branch managers near me and a few have requested a resume. Hoping someone bites eventually.
Want to go to London, England (I am originally from there - as you can see from my profile pic)? My friend found this ad. Me and my friend were just talking about how ridiculous this internship was. How are they going to supervise interns? What do they expect their interns to do? Capital Partners Group

Oberon Securities? I am sure they take all the help they can get. I have heard that they don't even pay analysts and associates.
Is it still too late to find something? I've been trying to contact boutiques, but nobody replies. Please help!
