Too many internships
[Sorry for formatting - used my mobile]
Hi,
In 2019 efinancialcareers posted about the incoming IB Analysts in FFM and their previous internships.
https://www.efinancialcareers.de/nachrichten/2019…
According to the article most people have at least 4 - 5 internships with some even having 8 - 9.
Looking through the LinkedIn profiles of analysts from the UK and USA though I saw that most of them had only 2 or 3 internships.
I was therefore wondering is it only in Germany important to have a massive amount of internships and in other areas not so much?
I already had a few internships but mostly at smaller institutions (think William Blair, Baird, Jefferies, Raymond James...) and at 2 Micro PE Funds (1bn. AUM).
I will finish my bachelors by May 2022 and am planning to do my master's afterwards.
Now I am currently thinking if it is a good idea to take a gap year to get better internships (maybe at a BB or EB) or at a larger PE fund (especially since I have lined up interviews for funds with 10-25bn AUM).
My career goal is to end up in IB either in NYC or LDN - however since I am studying in Germany I mostly hear that a master and lots of internships are important and that I would be wise to take a gap year to get more practical experience.
What is your opinion on this?
Thank you
At my US school, I’d say most have 2 before their junior SA. Usually during summers after freshman and sophomore year
