Top 3 Finance Movies
Saw a post recently that ranked Trading/Finance movies and it ranked Margin Call pretty low (not sure if it was sarcastic). Anyhow, in terms of accuracy and content, what would be your top 3?
Mine:
1) Too Big to Fail
2) Margin Call
3) The Big Short
If I had to choose the most entertaining, I'd say Wolf of Wall Street, Wall Street, or the Big Short.
25th hour should be on there

That is the post that initially got me thinking because IMO, that list is a piss take.
yea i agree, absolutely shit list
In terms of accuracy and content:
1) The Big Short - great book too
2) Wolf of Wall Street - based on his book and pretty close representation of what happened in his life
3) Barbarians at the Gate - the rise of PE
Do like Wall Street (The OG) and Margin Call - lot of similarities to Wolf of Wall Street, I.e. chop shop
Sounds good. I'll check Barbarians at the Gate out. Seems like a decent book.
Unpopular opinion there are only three actually good ones
American Pyscho Wolf of Wall Street The Big Short
Gordon Gekko is about as intimidating as the geico gecko fuck the movie Wall Street
Lloyd, American Psycho is a great movie and truly ambitious. Does a good job critiquing Wall Street Bros too but hardly mentions anything related to finance besides every fucking one being a VP for M&A.
And yes, Gordon Gekko wasn't intimidating at all and Oliver Stone's take on capitalism was pretty childish but I still think the movie was fun because Charlie Sheen got duped.
Other Peoples Money
boiler room is GOAT
Gonna have to strongly disagree with you there m8.
Trading Places will probably always be my favorite.
Not trying to make you feel old but I never heard much about that movie probably because it was released 14 years before I was born.
Watch it anyway, all time movie.
I didn't feel old until I looked up its release date and realized that means you were born in 1997. Fuck.
Oh well I'm still south of 30 so I'm counting this as a win.
This, hilarious movie (Dan Aykroyd! Eddie Murphy!) plus it is near 100% accurate as to how trading works, corruption included.
Don't forget that it's the only movie on the list that spawned securities law. They even made it clear while debating Dodd-Frank. Just google 'Eddie Murphy Rule.'
Wall Street (Blue Horseshoe loves Anacott Steel)
Wolf of Wall Street
American Psycho
Big Short
Also - not a movie, but I love Billions
Agree with your list. Billions is amazing!
Tagging on above's not a movie...Succession on HBO is awesome.
Agreed 100%. I might go as far as saying that even though I love Billions, it has diverted away from the main plot and is a bit cat-mouse chase and snappy dialogues so that would make Succession a much better-written show with a deeper theme than a pissing contest between powerful people.
I feel like Succession has diverted from the plot a little bit too. Also, sometimes the writing is awful with just f-bombs being thrown around with no point
Billions Season 1 & 2 were awesome. I wish they never went in the "Taylor" direction, a little too politically correct, and the sideshow with the Russian went nowhere...what the hell was that? The war between Axe and Chuck in the beginning was awesome. I think the new season will return in the right direction.
Thanks for the recommendation!
Started it last night and watched the first three episodes. Excellent so far.
For Succession, if you finish episode 6 and don't feel like it was amazing, I'd be surprised.
Trading Places Wall Street The Big Short
my top 3 but im over 30
While Limitless is not specifically a finance movie, it is worth the watch. Does anyone know where you can watch/stream Barbarians at the Gate?
Glengarry Glen Ross isn't a finance movie but worth a watch. Alec Baldwin's speech is second only to Leo's in Wolf of Wall Street.
