Top Groups at Goldman Sachs

Hi,
I know there has been a thread on this before but it seemed like most of the content was from five years ago. I was wondering if anyone had any updated impressions on top groups at GS besides FIG/ TMT.

Thanks

any group at GS will be fine i have a few friends in TMT and obviously they're extremely qualified (one had an IB summer at BofA his summer freshman year- which i didn't even know was possible)

but he told me that pretty much any group has good exits as long as you're ranked well as an analyst

There are only 5 classic groups, so “besides TMT and FIG” is pretty constraining.

TMT (NY and SF) and FIG have insane exits. CRH has good pe placement, and NR has good PE, distressed and HF placement Industrials is probably the least sought after but still send people to KKR/Apollo every year

Probably because their other groups are so coveted and impressive. GS Industrials is still worth taking in my opinion. Maybe Industrials' potential placement in Chicago/Houston may be less desirable for some people too. Just a few things to consider.

Oh, it could. I'd imagine you could leverage any IBD experience at GS into competitive buy-side opportunities. I'm simply saying that the other groups may be considered more prestigious given the nature of the industry they cover (perceived as more interesting and more deal flow) and the particular cities (i.e., I think most analysts want NYC over a Chicago or SF whereas a post-MBA associate may be more open to other cities) .

Pretty much every GS IB groups are good. Really just comes down to culture of group (Industrials is known for being rough while CRG is considered more lifestyle). Exit opp is more dependent on the GS analyst than group

Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the consumer & retail group has been merged with healthcare. Now they are known as "Consumer Retail Healthcare".
