totally lost
I'm a ChemE major at a fairly good school(UMich) and recently decided that I would rather not spend my life working in some plant/factory in the boondocks. I've seen a lot of engineering majors from my school go into consulting, and from what I've read, it seems that it would make for a good career - decent salary, sane working hours, flexible opportunities later in life.
But while I've seen a lot of discussion on salaries/hours/perks of a career consulting, I haven't really found any info about what the job actually entails. Are there any good resources other than internet hearsay on the typical consulting lifestyle(e.g. books?).
I've also seen posters suggest that students avoid interning for second tier consulting firms if their final goal is an M/B/B firm and go for a BB internship instead. Would a BB internship would teach you anything relevant/useful that you could use later in your career? Is it even possible get an internship at a BB as a sophomore from a state school?

It'll be difficult getting a BB internship as a sophomore no matter what school you're from, but at this stage you should just focus on getting an internship rather than worrying about the prestige - that's more important for your penultimate year internship.
Also I'd say UMich is a pretty decent school, semi-target.
