Tough Situation Advice
I'm in a somewhat unique situation. I'm sure a lot of people are going to want to rip on me because I'm in a tough spot, etc, but any advice would be much appreciated.
I went to a non-target in NYC, graduated '09. I played a major sport for four years, GPA of 3.1. For a year I worked in life-insurance sales and non financial sales. I decided to go back to school and get my MBA (same non target as undergrad). I realize now it was a mistake to go for an MBA rather than for an MSF somewhere , but the damage has been done.
My MBA grades have been great. I've interviewed for a few jobs in compliance but after reading some posts I don't know what that will be like. I know that IBD/S&T/FO is out of the question, what other career choices could I have? Assume i'm decently connected.
I just want to make decent money (55Kish to start, end up making around $150 when I'm 35 or so.) I'm not going to be a hot shot, and I get that. But any ideas from experienced people would be great. Government? Ops? Securities Lending? Marketing? My real dream is finance, but I'm open to any ideas whatsoever. Believe it or not I'm very driven, I just got caught up in sports in undergrad and matured later on when it came to my career.
There are always jobs in wealth management. Don't sell yourself short, if you network you can land something good. Especially at smaller firms. I worked on a derivatives trading desk with marginal talent at best (at a MM bank). pm if you want me to look over your resume.
yeah dont sell yourself short^^^^ If you wanna work in finance/hedgefunds/S&T you can do it i believe in you......You can always go to another city...............
Thanks a lot guys, much appreciated. I was expecting a lot worse. thewallaby, if you'd like to take a look at my resume that would be amazing. I'm looking for for internships right now as a part of my MBA program to improve my resume.
