Transfer for junior year or stay at non-target top state school?
Should I attempt to transfer to a target or semi target for junior or stay at a non target?
I have heard that being a junior is hard because OCR happens in fall or spring sophomore year. I can’t take an extra semester if I do transfer.
If I stay at the non target I could probably get a higher GPA (like 3.9+) because of all the curves and stuff. I would have 3 years to start clubs and stuff. (Currently a Freshman)
This would be my second time transferring.
I would just have to maintain my gpa and retake the SAT if I transfer ( which I may do anyways for my resume).
My goal is to work for MBB or another well known management consulting firm.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
Hey Stressedcollegekid23, what a lonely thread. I'm here since nobody responded ...so maybe one of these discussions will help:
I hope those threads give you a bit more insight.
Consulting recruitment happens in the fall.
Consulting firms don't typically hire rising junior interns, except for special programs.
If you're at a top state school, you shouldn't be in a bad position for recruitment at your own school. I'd focus on building a strong profile with good EC's / other internships and network.
Part of this depends on how much of a non-target your non-target is. Are there still usually 2-3 kids a year who can grind their way to an offer? How do you compare to those kids?
There are like 5-6 kids that make it to BB a year. I think I am at least equal to them in terms of GPA and ecs, my profile is also a bit more unique.
The school is ranked like 60-70, it is kind of well known but not very prestigious outside of the area. It does get recruit by Big 4 firms and a few kids go to one every year.
If you want to do top consulting, transfer to a target. They really CARE about brand name. To help yourself, network to target students/clubs/alumni after you got offer from the new school
I’m on the same boat. What would anyone recommend for IB recruitment? I’m currently at a non target as well. However I’m only a freshman still and I’m currently interning at a small MM boutique.
get A's and then transfer ASAP
For MBB going to a target matters a lot but you could aim for tier 2/big 4 and then aim for MBB post MBA.
