Transfer to Ivy?
Hi guys. I’m finishing my sophomore year at a non-ivy target studying finance and possibly data science (think Stern/Ross/Gtown) with a GPA of around 3.9.
Here’s the situation: I was recently accepted as a transfer at Brown for Spring 2020 as a second semester sophomore. They said I could do whatever I want in the Fall of 2019 – classes at my current school, study abroad (and maybe get junior standing), a fall internship full time, really anything. If I don’t take classes that will transfer, I effectively push back graduation by a year.
Is it worth transferring to Brown for IB recruiting? I feel pretty behind in terms of internships, networking, and recruiting in general, but do you think it’s worth transferring and delaying graduation by a year?
Is it worth it for prestige/career in general? And what would be a good major at Brown – Their business major? Regular econ? Computer science-econ (joint)? Or even liberal arts?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks monkeys.
Do you like your current school?
I didn't until this semester, now I kind of do. I would be nervous about leaving the community that it took me a while to find.
How about delaying graduation at your current school for a semester? That would give you another recruiting cycle and some breaks with networking and recruiting in general.
in my opinion Brown isn't that much (or even) a step up from your current school - especially for business. Brown is probably the weakest of Ivys for business and doesn't hold the same clout as some of the others in my opinion.
Same opinion here. OP has a stellar GPA in a relevant major at what is still a target school and won't have to go through the brain damage of switching schools / making new friends.
If you are at one of the three schools you mentioned above with a 3.9 I would focus on networking and continuing to do well there. I would honestly take any of them over Brown for Business recruiting.
all of the three u mentioned > brown. do not transfer
Better for recruiting, or for an overall career?
Idk what exactly u meant by the question, but I personally see A TON of stern and Ross students at early insights events and alum working at different banks. Georgetown isn’t as strong but still has a good name. Brown simply doesn’t have that clout. If u wanna do IB, transferring out of one of those three schools into brown would be a terrible mistake.
You are probably better of staying put if recruiting is your goal. You are a top student at a target or semi-target.
You have a killer GPA at a target school, all of which are definitely better than Brown for IB. Delay graduation or take a semester off for "personal reasons" if you need more time to recruit/need another shot. I go to an identical tier target and was able to grab BB IB with just a 3.5.
At my school which is a peer to yours we're halfway done with SA20 recruiting so honestly just delay grad if you're worried about not landing a gig.
@ the 4.0 GPA hater that MS'd me because he struck out
