Transfer to UNC Econ or Northwestern Econ?
Hey guys, I have recently applied for transfer to multiple schools and have since heard back from UNC and Northwestern and have been accepted to both. Obviously, Northwestern will provide the best opportunities since it is a target school, however my fees per year is amounting to 70k while UNC-CH is only 20k due to in-state. The downfall with UNC is that I would have to apply to transfer into the b-school after one semester while I am guaranteed econ at Northwestern. I hope to work in IB after undergrad and want to know where I can find the best opportunities. Any opinions on what program I should go to?
UNC student here and it really depends on your position at the moment. You’ll get into Kenan Flagler if you’re coming from a strong school. Also, If you have prior experience in finance you’ll get in as long as you hit the ground running. Wouldn’t say that Northwesteen is a bigger target for NYC than Unc KF, although it is the stronger long term brand.
UNC is the easy choice here, would be different if it were unc vs a "real" target
I was told Northwestern is good for management consulting, but also is a feeder for some banks in NYC. I do know however their OCR isn't the best and only some banks come to Northwestern to recruit for NYC IB. However, I wasn't sure if UNC required intense club participation to get noticed by banks due to the size of the school and because I am a transfer student it will be much harder to get into investment funds.
Clubs aren't a big deal for getting into banking at UNC according to a kid I know there. I don't attend but from a quick google search and linkedin stalking their PMT student fund actually has pretty mediocre placements
I'd say UNC 100%. You'll have fairly similar opportunities at a fraction of the cost.

Oh this is easy, my parents moved to NC after my senior year in highschool and I was stuck going to my flagship university from my home-state and now am being forced to pay out of state tuition there, which is not worth it especially because it is not the best state school in terms of recruiting for finance. I feel like the amount of money I am paying there now equals the money I would be paying at some top-tier universities which is why I have chosen to transfer.
