[Transfer Undergrad] Semi Target to Target: Northwestern vs. Brown

So I have steadily narrowed down my choices and I am between Brown and Northwestern. I would major in economics at both, though I was leaning toward a joint major at Brown (possibly compsci-econ or BEO).

Anyway, My ultimate goal is to place into IB BB in New York City, I would be disappointed if I ended up working in Chicago (which is my concern with Northwestern).

Any thoughts? My parents were saying they believe that Northwestern offers a more technical training, therefore a better value.

Both offers great placement into NYC BB. I don't think all BBs recruit at NU (missing like 1 or 2) for NYC but the EB recruiting is strong. Brown is probably comparable. Seriously threads like these are stupid because if you can make it at NU you can make it at Brown, and if you can't cut it Brown you're not going to make it at NU.

Boil it down to money and which school you like better for other reasons.

No offense to the poster above, but he's kinda wrong. Kids get into NY BBs/EBs but it's usually not OCR. Here's what you need to know. I'm a junior at NU and am going into IB.

NU does not have "technical training" in finance. There is only 1 accounting class. Econ is purely Econ like micro/macro/econometrics not finance or accounting. There are like 2 classes that you can take that are like math-quanty for traders, but you have to prepare for IB on your own.

Second, NU is not a target for NY. Goldman and BAML are the only ones that do OCR for NY but they might take 1 or 2 each. They also do OCR for Chicago and then there are resume drops for Chicago offices of the non-Euro BBs. So basically all the EB/BB stuff below is Chicago offices. Here's a post of mine from another thread:

The main OCR at NU was Baird, Blair, HL (no Lincoln which seemed odd).

BAML and GS were the only BBs that did actual OCR, but supposedly they don't take many kids.

There were also resume drops for JPM, MS, Lazard, Jefferies, Greenhill, Moelis, Citi, WF, Nomura.

No sign of the Euro banks except a DB DCM role.

Other MM/boutique banks - Lazard MM had OCR while Piper, Sagent, DeSilva Phillips, Petrie had resume drops.

In the last year, kids have gotten into all the BBs and some EBs (Evercore, Centerview, Blackstone as examples) that didn't have resume drops but it requires serious effort. It's difficult to get positions in NY as most of the OCR/resume drops are for Chicago offices. There is a newly formed IB club though I'm not sure how good it is and then a business "fraternity" which is for both genders and it helps with networking and general career prep.

So honestly, a decent amount of kids get into the NY offices but it's basically the non target route (networking) though NU is respected. NU is only a target for Chicago offices and the elite MM firms take the most kids. I have no clue what Brown is like, but just know that NU is a target for Chicago and barely a semi-target for NY though there are smart, dedicated kids who make their way into NY.
