Transfering to: NY or West Coast 1st Yr Analyst

Hi,

I have a few questions and I hope that you guys have some insight into my problem.

I am at a BB in a regional office (but sizable) and I would like to transfer to NYC or the west coast. I prefer transferring to NYC however.

1) How would I go about transferring to NYC / WC within my BB? Should I wait till my first year is over and then ask my team about the possibility to transfer (I would rather transfer now)? Should I talk to other groups other than my NYC (or west coast if applicable) group counterpart and see if they are willing to take a lateral? Should I just talk directly with other groups and not even let my team know until something is secure? What are you thoughts about this? This possibility would be the most feasible I feel.

2) How does one go about with a lateral to a NYC / WC position from on BB to another? What are things to avoid / tips and so forth

3) Would I be at any disadvantages to lateral into a new group because they don't really know who I am?

This is a pretty important decision for me and I am really set on moving out of the region I am in. I enjoy my group, but just want to be in another area of the US for my professional growth and career prospects.

Thanks for all the pointers.
