Transitioning from Engineering to Finance

New to WSO, let me know if this isn't the best place to post this.

About to enter my third year of Engineering at a top RG uni, have done an Operations internship with Amazon this summer.

No spring weeks, no finance/banking internships, now trying to secure any experience I can.

My plan is to apply for Masters to enable me to apply for summer internships in 2022, then use the experience to get a job in finance (corporate or IBD). In the meantime, I am studying for the CFA Investment Foundations Program.

Is this a waste of time? Should I just apply for grad roles without any experience since they seem to like engineering students?
