Transitioning from MM PE to HF
I am starting a MM PE job soon and currently work at an EB. The reason I originally took the PE job was because at the time (very early in my analyst stint) it seemed to be the right next step, a foray into investing while still maintaining the familiarity of running processes, managing teams and people.
After I got the job I ended up 1) developing an interest in the public markets through friends 2) realized after working on a few buyside deals with sponsors that the process sucks and HF is closer to pure investing.
How difficult (IF I ultimately decide it is something I want to pursue) to recruit for traditional l/s hedge funds and make the transition? And what is the best time frame to start looking? To be clear, I just want to know in case i decide I want to make the switch. My belief is to always enter things open minded.
Hey Bluefanatic, I think you deserve a response...heck, everyone does. We're listening, sorry about the delay ...my best guess at places on WSO that could help:
If we're lucky, maybe these professional users will respond: MNx GoldenEagle2009 Cat0987
Fingers crossed that one of those helps you.

I don't think it would be that hard a transition as long as the firm isn't heavily quant focused. Ultimately will depend on location and competition as YMMV. There was a hedge fund recruiter AMA recently maybe post on there as they will be able to give greater insight. I think if you can get your foot in the door of a head hunter you should be fine.
