Trump Is Trying to Wipe Out Trans/Intersex People

For government purposes the Trump administration is trying to define gender as the sex of the genitals that you were born with.

Predictably the left wing is up in arms about this common sense policy. Facebook now has 72 gender pronouns that you can "define" yourself with

Is the Democratic party in danger of turning into an intergalactic freak show?

As usual, there is a ton of misunderstanding about what is actually going on thanks to the media.

What is actually going on is that the Trump administration is correctly interpreting the Title IX provisions--written in the 1970's--which are aimed at preventing discrimination against women ("on the basis of sex"). The administration is simply saying that Title IX does not apply to men who think they are women ("gender identity"); the provisions apply to women who are genetically women (or, conversely, to men who are genetically men). And when I say "correctly" I mean literally the authors of Title IX never envisioned the lunacy that is the post modern view of gender (which, by the Left's own arguments, wouldn't even apply to Title IX since the literal word used is "sex", which is genetically objective).

If the Democrats want to bastardize science for their crazy ideology then they can make their case to the American public and pass a law; they should not be allowed to unilaterally re-write the law.

I'm not going to touch on people deciding which gender to be, but in reality gender isn't so binary as having an X or Y chromosome. There's a ton of shit that goes on during gene expression to the point where you can have XX but still be a man. As we discover more through science we should be updating the laws, because really this shit is all a confusing spectrum like every aspect of humanity. Simple helps sometimes but if enough people are getting mad about it then I say change something, especially when it doesn't affect you.

Thank you for the good info about what's really going on, and how Title IX plays in.

What you’re talking about is pretty rare. Reality is you have XX and XY. There can be feminine men and masculine women. Doesn’t change biology.

Leftists - Orangeman dumb, science proves climate change.

Orangeman dumb, you can pick genders, science dumb.

XX v XY is really just an awful way to try to determine gender. Helps for quick approximations on average but isn't fit for the legal realm, regardless of how you choose to identify politically.

You’re conflating gender with sex. The controversy is that the Obama administration unilaterally re-wrote Title IX to say something it never said.

What you're describing here is intersex, not transgendered. The Trump administration defintion fits intersex ("immutable" "biological" characteristics). They are trying to avoid the subjectivity of a man saying he's a woman being entitled to legal protections as a woman.

Except when your business needs to cater to all customers as if they were Dragon people. Then it matters. When you need to hire a consultant or a lawyer to review policies because some statute requires you too, then it matters.

D3soccerguy:
I don't understand why this triggers to many people on both sides of the aisle. This situation is pretty harmless to anyone, at worst it is kind of annoying (which it is). If someone wants to identify as a dragon, who cares? It doesn't affect me and I most likely won't interact with that person ever. So they can live their life and I can live mine, case closed.

It matters. What civil rights should dragons be afforded? How should children be educated on the existence or non-existence of dragons? Do our rules governing business and everything else need to account for dragons? Are dragons much different from bears or lions or unicorns? Which one is more different than the others? How should they be treated? It goes on and on.

There are groups out there now promoting pedophilia as part of the LGBTABSDEGHL+++++ world.

And if there was strong enough data to suggest against biological definitions, it wouldn't be so much of an issue. But that's just not the case. The trans community identify themselves on an unlimited spectrum, which doesn't make sense in a structured civilization. In the wild, who cares. Civility does not rest on shrugging at things. It works on predefined notions of things.
