trying to enter finance from science background
Hi, I am new to the forum because i recently started looking at the forum from people who are premed. but many of them are from quant science background (enegerring) and I am from human biology. I recently discovered msf programs. even though I am hard working and willing to work long hours, there are set of problems that are getting in the way. So i am posting to see what anyone else would do if they were in my position to get some generic advise.
-I am 30 yrs old and have only few jobs and never in the business sector. (mostly lab and RA) since I was never planning on going into business.
-I left graduate level school in healthcare because I failed classes towards the end( I think I might gotten depressed as i have history of anxiety disorder and depression but I am getting help now) and I know this will count against me regardless of my reasons.
-I have loans to pay
- I am from michigan state university and have 3.1 gpa
-I am currently helping my parents business and tutoring on the side
-I recently recieved interview for a 1 year teaching fellow in chicago (not sure about this)
-currently I am tutoring and help my parents business and love to discuss real live business. I get to hear things otherwise may not have heard.
-I have a human bio science backgournd and would love to continue into some form of science related background or company (biotech, biopharma, pharma, maybe trading,). But there is plenty of fierce competition so I am delusion about that.
-I love to read so I can be self taught if I understand the lingo.
I wanted some advice as to what would you do if you were in my position and were hard working. Where would be good place to start if you were in my position? I am applying as many jobs as possible or interships for little or no experience. I thought about financial advisor but i am assuming you need a finance or buisiness degree.
let me know if you wnat to know more.
As someone who studied Biology in college I really do feel for you. But 30 is really pushing it, especially with failing grad school grades and a low ugrad GPA. I would either look for an entry level operations processing / back office role (many don't even require an undergraduate degree) and bust your balls. or apply to something like teach for america and hope it sets you up for a decent MBA after 2 years.
