Not at a BB, but for my virtual internship, the hours have been as follows:

8:00 - Wake up check phone for emails (usually nothing, if there's something panic and run to my desk)

8:45/9 - Start working if I have anything to work on, if not usually chill till about 10ish, then email people on my team one by one to see if I can help.

10-6 - Work/ calls with team/ watch Netflix depending on if I'm assigned something or not

6-9 - there have been a couple of days when I have used this time to work when the FT analysts are jammed, and there is a client deliverable that needs to get done (you know who is doing the first draft of those appendix slides)

9-12? - This has been by far been the most variable time. Sometimes my day is over around 6/7 (like today), but other times I've been given work at 11:30 and needed to grind till ~3 am so my associate could review it first thing in the morning. I'm usually attentive/responsive till 12/1230, but at that point, if no one has given me work/ told me to expect work, I don't think they can be that mad if I miss an email at 1:00 am (hasn't happened...yet).

Overall, I'd say I am on "on the clock" from 8 am to 12 pm, but there are usually large chunks of time during the day when I don't do anything (and I'm not even at my desk). I have noticed that the longer I am free during the day, the harder I will get fucked that night. I'd also say the best thing you can do is set up your email on your phone with push notifications and turn off the "sent from IOS" default ending, and you can do whatever you want for at least a few hours every day while still being super responsive.

Basically all PowerPoint. The Excel work I have done so far has not been technical at all (I hope I will get to do more modeling as the internship progresses). It is mostly creating/ adding to buyers lists, or sourcing and adding contact information. I have done some comps work (trading and transaction), but for the most part, it is just plugging in the CIQ code in the reference cell and letting the workbook update and then reformating sheets or charts based on the desired look.

My bad, I spaced and just didn't answer your other questions. I am on a decent number of calls (none with clients). If they are team calls with senior members, I basically don't say anything apart from "Yes," "Ok," "Got it," "Will do," etc. If they are calls with the junior team, we usually shoot the shit for a little while then I revert to the above phases plus the occasional question. I also have a fair number of 1:1 calls where someone will call me with comments or with a new task and explain what I need to do (these tend to be more conversational, and I spend more time asking questions).

In terms of asking for work, I do, but I'm not constantly hitting them up because I imagine that would be annoying. Its more like if I just took a 30-minute break, I'll email an an/as and ask if I can help, then wait for them to say no (I've never gotten a yes lol). After the no, I'll email someone else, wait for the no. Rinse repeat. Then after a few nos, I usually give up and resume doing nothing until someone emails me something. I think you need to strike a balance between showing a willingness to help and not being irritating (i.e. I wouldn't email the same person 3 times a day asking to help, I'd do it every other day so they don’t forget you exist) .

If you’re only on your computer for half the time from 8 am to midnight, are you getting paid for 8 hours or 16, so a bunch of overtime?

This is the first weekend I've needed to do work (I wouldn't even say I really needed to, but my associate asked for a draft Monday or Tuesday, and I figured it would be better to get it to him early on Monday to show initiative). I also think I might need to update some of the slides I built last week tomorrow (the analyst said I might get comments over the weekend), but so far, weekends have been light (~4 hours today and planning to do the same tomorrow).

This was all a very helpful read thank you really appreciate it. Im an incoming IB summer analyst as well. Did you know all PPT shortcuts before starting? or did you learn them on the job/during training?

the 5 weeks is inclusive off working on deals or whatever stuff you're tasked with by the staffer?

We'll give every intern stupid stuff to do in the first week. Once we can trust you, we will give you better things like even modeling or entire decks to put together. All depends on how much you can show us that you are good.

Also, for any of you hardos out there, NO ONE will be emailing you past 11 or 12 for sure about any work that they need done by the early morning. The firm is trying to make themselves look good, not make you want to leave and spread false rumors about them or talk shit about them behind their backs.

Will update my computer soon and leave Incognito so I will disappear forever. How did I achieve Neanderthal by trolling? Some people are after me so need to close account for safety.

Don't ask revealing questions. WE are trying to e anonnymous here

the comment above was really helpful -- can anyone else talk about what they've been doing? seems like a lot of info on Bofa since they started first but not other banks. for me it's been a shitton of panels and barely any work. real work like pitches and client stuff aren't even allowed
