Two offers: better brand name vs more responsibility?

Have two research associate job offers in hand, one at a large brand name and at a smaller, more-specialized shop. Which offer do you go for all else equal? Large player is a structured program with likely a lower chance of a direct promotion, but I should receive solid training, better comp, and a strong brand name on the resume. For the smaller fund, likely to be able to take on more responsibility (likely to get coverage at some point) while still an associate and the direct promotion to analyst is definitely a possibility. That being said comp is lower, was not as impressed with the analysts I spoke with, and might make lateral moves harder. How do you weigh these factors?

Go with the large brand name, it's a no brainer. If you aren't impressed with the analysts at the smaller firm then that's a red flag that you shouldn't work there. Also, you could always lateral to a firm with roles that have more responsibility if u start from the large brand name and it's prob easier.

Large firm... as dumb as it may be, there's a lot of focus on "pedigree" on the street... getting a good name on your resume can go a long way later in your career. And structured analyst programs can give you a very strong network that can be very valuable later on in your career.
