Uber’s “Project Elevate” - Its Affect on our Built Environment and the CRE Industry

This Uber white paper titled Project Elevate was brought to my attention a couple of weeks ago by a colleague.

While the white paper is making some aggressive claims regarding what are basically flying cars, it could make for an interesting discussion on how a development such as the widespread adoption of “VTOLs” as a means of travel could effect our industry and our built environment.

What is everyone thoughts on Project Elevate?

I tend agree, but then again I probably would’ve said the same thing about autonomous vehicles 10 years ago. A company just tested a flying taxi in Dubai, so it looks like the tech is feasible at this point, without taking batteries and range into consideration. I’m more skeptical of the economics that Uber laid out. Without the regulatory approval for this to fly autonomously while carrying passengers, there’s no way this would be cheap for the end user. I can imagine pilots are fairly expensive. Bringing this to market by next year seems a bit of a stretch.
