UBS WM or Vanguard
Hi all. Just wondering about thoughts between UBS and Vanguard as for reputation? I am considering going to UBS GTP WMA for a summer internship but also for Vanguard's College to Corporate (C2C) internship program. Both programs feed into the companies' respective rotational programs. I know pay of UBS will be higher, but I do want to do Institutional Investing. The problem is, with the summer internship at Vanguard, you do not choose where you are placed. A lot of interns end up working in a call center, which does not seem interesting to me. Will the UBS GTP internship help if I want to switch to Institutional Investing (say a BlackRock)? Any thoughts on both firms would be greatly appreciated!
Very good advice from the poster above.
If it's just an internship, I would probably take Vanguard over UBS even if there is some uncertainty as to your placement. Vanguard is quite well known in the institutional space. My personal feeling is that the wealth management internships are a dime a dozen. You're in a good spot either way. Definitely try the first poster's advice though.
You're right that WM internships are common, but this is not a WM internship with an FA doing BS work. Its an actual structured program where you can be placed in departments such as research, equity syndicate desk etc. This is a pretty competitive internship with 1500 applicants for 30 spots.
ananguytoibd: thanks for the insight. I will let you all know what happens. Btw, I am not against going to UBS WM (it is one of the best) and I think I could be in a group that does research/investing/portfolio management. It just seems more difficult to ensure a rotation at Vanguard. Their culture is really that everyone basically moves around to different roles. I also am aware that Vanguard pay is much lower than UBS. Pay is not huge in my mind, but it is another thing to consider.
Very good advice from the above poster. Will use it myself.
Hi! i have a question- what did you end up picking? because i'm in the same situation as you with UBS and C2C. Also, did C2C ask for your transcript??
