UCB Econ(Non-Hass) or UCLA Econ/BizEcon for IB
Hey there! I'm a CC student transferring soon to either UCB or UCLA. I've been admitted into UCB as an Econ premajor(Did not apply for Haas, I'd rather go to a business school for my MBA through a potential future employer) and into UCLA as either BizEcon or Econ. My plan is to go into IB or some similar avenue once I've graduated. I've scoured these forums and then some and I've had numerous talks with the people at the small local investment firm I've interned in (a local L.A. firm) about both schools and I've been told the difference in recruitment between UCB Econ and UCLA Econ is quite marginal. Is that the case? I know the outlook for UCLA Econ/BizEcon isn't bad, especially for the SoCal area(I'd be quite content to do IB in L.A. however I'm aware there are not that many firms and positions are not as abundant as other large markets) but I've not been able to find too much information about UCBs' Econ outlook as it seems most of the information is focused on Haas.
Can anyone that recently graduated from UCB as an Econ major shed some light on the matter?
I am not considering anything other than potential opportunities in my decision,I don't care about the weather, the people, the smell, the food or any and other such nonsense, I'll be happy in either place and am only interested in going to the school that will serve me best in the future.

UCB (Econ or Haas) vs UCLA vs USC (Originally Posted: 11/05/2013)
Hello,
I am currently a Community College student who is about to apply for transfer to UCB, UCLA, USC, Claremont McKenna and Northwestern. I am unsure what route I want to pursue career wise, initially I was considering IB (I still am) but also want to consider some type of trading.
The biggest dilemma I currently have is whether to apply for Haas or to apply for Econ at UCB. I am nearly guaranteed admission to Econ and would have the ability to focus in math, but I like the finance exposure and name recognition that Haas has. Applying to Haas is much riskier and I am curious if it is really worth this risk for job placement and recruiting.
It seems that the consensus on WSO is that UCB has the best placement in comparison to UCLA (may be doing BizEcon but probably Math/Econ if accepted), but I am very close to UCLA and enjoy the atmosphere there in comparison to Berkeley. But I am willing to forgo this for UCB if it really plays a significant role in my future.
In general, how is placement from UCB compare to USC and UCLA? Haas vs Econ w/ a math concentration?
If I got into Northwestern, I would definitely go there, but my chances are low so I am not focusing on it.
If anyone can give insight it would be greatly appreciated.
Fight to get into Haas. Best by far.
Haas for sure and NW would be a close second in terms of placement for IB.
Thanks. That's what I figured. I guess the biggest dilemma is guaranteeing Econ or taking the risk of Haas, but I guess the risk is worth it.

UCLA Biz-Econ Vs UCB Econ (Originally Posted: 05/28/2012)
Basically, my choice comes down to UCLA biz-econ and UCB Econ. I hope to break into HF in long-term and possibly AM along the way. How's the HF scene at both of these schools (or should i say location)? Also, what's the best chance for landing a job in NYC in the future? UCLA is my dream place to be, but i know UCB would give me a better chance being near SF. I can't bring myself to a decision. Help me out WSO.
