UCSB -> IB | Financial Math vs. Econ + Accounting Major

Hello all,

I'm a first year Financial Math major at UCSB, planning to become either an IB Financial Analyst or get into a Hedge Fund. I've recently joined Finance Connection and Data Science club and am improving my resume as much as I can.

I've been told the Financial Math major is a GPA killer and I have a higher chance of getting into IB with a good GPA in Econ + accounting and the established connections within the finance clubs I am a part of. The Financial Math major focuses more on data science statistics, economics, and math rather than anything strictly finance related. I'm very interested in Data Science but I think I can learn it on my own by keeping up with data science club.

Does anyone in IB have any advice on whether I should keep the much harder Financial Math major or switch into Econ + Accounting and rely more on connections and personal growth.
