UK MSc to IB
Given the COVID situation I did not manage to get any relevant experience during my undergrad. Now if you had the option to go to a target MSc, say LSE MSc Finance, would you do it? Is it realistic to land a summer in 2022. The recruiting environment is really tough right now so I don’t think taking out a year after my BSc is gonna let me do much.
I'm in exactly the same predicament and it is making me stressed out of my mind. There are days I start randomly crying and struggling to get out of bed.
Same bro. What are your plans? Btw, OP, would take the MSc.
Why are you crying? Clearly you didn't put enough effort on your applications

I would go for an MSc, but only a top one. Also, keep networking just in case something clicks.
Alright so I was in a similar situation. Don’t panic. First of all re-evaluate fully what it is what you want to do. Map it out clearly and coherently. Once you’ve done that start applying for SA positions! Apply for everything , don’t just narrow yourself down to IB, so i’m talking ER, HF, AM, VC, Physical Trading literally every and everything you can see related to ‘high finance’. And trust me if you can land a Msc Finance spot at LSE which is insanely difficult and much easier said than done without any experience, then you can land an SA at one of these places too. Once you’ve got your SA, Msc Finance at LSE, Imperial, Warwick, Cass, Edinburgh and a few others should make you competitive for FT recruiting. Trust me it’s not easy but you’ll get there, good luck!
My question is how would firms see hiring someone with “incoming masters at LSE, Warwick...” on their resume. Like wouldn’t they want someone who can come back/ stay after the SA program?
I’m rather confused? typically in the UK you SA just before you start your masters and then do your masters and then go back to work at the place the following year that your Masters is complete? i’m not quite sure what your implying
Don't MSc students do SAs after their MSc? Heard this was quite attractive to firms as they can basically train you then take you on full time immediately afterwards.
after the Masters yes but is that what he’s asking i’m honestly not sure as he’s asking about doing a Masters concurrently to a SA??
First of all, don’t know if the hiring situation is “really tough” as you say. My EB advanced the FT start of several analysts last year and hit it out of the park last quarter. Also know they’re recruiting several FT analysts on top of SAs.
Might be different for BBs though, although given capital markets activity and analyst hours I doubt it.
Now, if you haven’t landed any interviews yet / are not advanced or don’t have offers, and are wondering if à MSc from LSE would help you land better career opportunities... I think it’s self explanatory.
Agree that I would only target the best schools for MSc: LSE, Oxbridge, LBS, HEC and to some extent some other EU schools like Bocconi, ESSEC, ESADE, etc. Maybe INSEAD as well.
This post is BS, you didn't land any experience because of COVID, it was because you didn't want the offer enough. You need to analyse what you did wrong in terms of CV, ECs, interview prep etc. A MSc from LSE will not give you summer 2022, you will instead compete with far more competent people
I think you’re being overly harsh on the OP here. Yes, OP should re-evaluate but one extra EC isn’t what lands you a summer. Be realistic: a lot of the interviewing process, especially involving recruiting firms, is luck.
I legit wrote "in terms of CV, ECs, interview prep etc". Luck is involved to a certain extent, but if land ZERO then bad applicant is a bigger factor and this is the reality
If OP has good internships, LSE MSc will for sure give him SA interviews
Isn’t OP’s point that they haven’t got relevant experience?
