UK Rap vs. US Rap

Title says it all.

The UK scene has been blowing the fuck up for a few years and the US scene also obviously has always been elite, but do y'all think the UK can takeover the US?

Like both, but I think the UK scene has some unique flavour that the US doesn't.

Let me know your thoughts

Don't know literally any UK rappers outside of Stormzy & KSI (lol) - don't think the UK is taking over anytime soon. If you ask anyone to name 10 US rappers, they could. Even Canadian rap is more well-known at this point.

There is more than one way to get there. I'd rather have 30 chapters than 3000 pages.

I feel that commercially the UK probably won't ever touch the USA, but I think many people on that side of the pond are ignorant to the talent in the UK,

Honestly, do yourself a favour and check out GRM Daily & Link up tv. These guys are supremely talented and versatile - They can do Drill (Headie One etc.) & the conscious rap (Dave)

Funniest

First you say UK rap is taking over

Second you say "u triggered bro?"

hahahahahahahaha nope - just getting a good laugh at you

There is more than one way to get there. I'd rather have 30 chapters than 3000 pages.

Yeh UK rap goes hard. You need to listen to some UK drill music. AM X Skengdo, Harlem Spartans, Headie One, 1011, BSIDE, 67, OFB + Loski all make quality music

Please, UK rap wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for U.S. rap. It’s literally the blueprint (although admittedly they benefit from a melting pot of different cultures that give grime that distinct and infectious sound. That’s thanks to Influence from Jamaican dancehall and Afrobeat).

There will never be any “takeover” of UK rap because...that’s not really how rap works. Rap is consistently ebbing and flowing to different hot spots around the world, but the root of its popularity will always be based in the U.S. There’s an American monopoly on rap from record label influence and popular culture influence through the entertainment industry (hello Hollywood). What I will say is that Grime is for sure growing at an exceptional rate and as a personal fan of the genre, I welcome the sound being popularized outside the UK (thanks Drake for stealing British flow to bring the sound to the mainstream here) and hope it’s here to stay. It deserves its respect

UK music is fire

Never heard of it

"If you always put limits on everything you do, physical or anything else, it will spread into your work and into your life. There are no limits. There are only plateaus, and you must not stay there, you must go beyond them." - Bruce Lee

Honestly a lot of the newer US rappers are wack, I could probably only name like 5 with any real longevity. From the US and increasingly listening to UK rappers as their scene is absolutely popping off.

Interesting

I always thought it made them sound smarter lol

Yeah, I just think when I listen to Hip Hop, I either want something nostalgic or that capitalizes on modern slang to tell relevant stories to today (however base or sophisticated). Can't say that UK rap really does either for me, smart sounding or not. I don't really associate hip hop with anything traditional, which is probably why the accents don't have much of an effect.
