Ungrad Transfer Advice
Hi all,
I'm new to the community and this is my first (of many) posts.
I am hoping to go into IB, and I was looking for some advice on my situation because everyone I have talked to has told me "it doesn't matter."
I am currently an incoming sophomore at a community college in CT with a solid GPA. I have 45 credits (cause of AP scores), and I graduated HS in 2018.
I just landed an M&A advisory internship, and it can last as long as I choose. I am also taking an online Investing/Valuation course that lasts the semester, and I am taking the SIE Exam soon.
With that said, I don't know what to do about where I plan to transfer in Spring.
I know that internships for Summer 2021 will be recruiting in Summer 2020, so it is important for me to get into a target/semi-target school by Spring 2020. The problem is that many schools don't take spring transfers, and the ones that do will only accept students into the general school rather than into a business major.
I am confident that I could get into a school like UVA, but I do not know how to navigate which school, state or private, would be best for someone in my situation to land an IB, PE, or VC internship for SUmmer 2021, and a related internship in SUmmer 2020.
I'm really lost right now, and I'm pretty much on my own with no one to talk to.
I'm from a pretty poor family, meaning they are not exactly "successful," nor have they ever considered the possibility that I might be.
Please help a guy out.
Thanks.
-Mike
Keep hustling brother, much respect. It sounds like you are doing all the right things and the M&A advisory internship will pay off big.
In terms of where to transfer, schools like UVA, UNC, UMich still place well out of their general undergrad program. It certainly is easier coming from their undergrad Business program, but based on your hustle, you should be able to grind through with a non-business degree. Also, the SIE would be a great look and you have a reason why you aren't in the business school. The biggest thing is getting an interview and once you do I'm sure you will rock it. You are on the right path, Mike.
