University College London (UCL) VS Northeastern University (NEU)?
Hi everyone! I'm from Indonesia and have been accepted to these universities for the majors stated below. Should I go to UCL or NEU for my undergraduate studies? I am mostly interested in the development of cryptocurrencies and the boom of startups popping up, but would also like to pursue a job at SV/NYC in tech companies (higher management - aiming for a CTO position in the end) or IB (could be on the tech side or front-office) to act as a backup/steady income during my startup hustle. Although these cities would be prime targets for me, I won't mind hustling at large cities as London, Singapore, HK, etc, as well. I would like to know which between the two universities are best for me; I believe UCL has brand recognition and takes only 3 years while costing less but located in London (not in the US :/) while NEU (located in Boston) allows me to stack up on majors and gives their students co-op (we get paid work experience for a period of 6 months each integrated to our course) but would take 5 years and cost much more. Adding on,, I'm also planning on adding in masters (either in CS/MBA or both concurrently).
Majors in College
* UCL: Information Management for Business
* NEU: Computer Science and Cognitive Psychology double major with PPE (Philosophy, Politics, and Economy). *I know its kinda long...
Any help would be appreciated! Many thanks in advance.
I will tell you from the very start that UCL is way better mostly because i've never heard of NEU. Not to mention that UCL is globally recognized.
Also don't be impressed by all these fancy names because once you graduate no one will be impressed with the name of your major. It's the content and course work that matters the most.
Thanks for the reply.
Do you think that taking "Information Management for Business" at UCL would hinder me? and is UCL well known in the US? I chose this major as I wanted some flexibility to work at technology companies as well.. might have some insight on this? By the way sorry couldn't post a link of the major for reference.
UCL is mostly recognized in Europe and Asia. The only schools which are known in the U.S are Oxford, Cambridge and LSE.
I don't think it will hinder you but you should look into what classes the major is offering. Most probably it will be general business classes, a math class or two and some programming or database classes.
From my exposure to Northeastern (from Boston, know a bunch of students/alumni), it seems like they do very well placing into the big 4. I can't speak to their IB placement; that might be available through their careers office? London is certainly a better location if you're determined to pursue IB, but I can't speak to how UCL does with that. Boston has some IBs around, but hedge funds and asset managers are definitely the bigger players in town.
Lol! I went to NEU and can tell you that UCL is a no-brainer! Computer Science might be the better major though. However, you need to consider how your job prospects are with either major/university. In my home country it is almost impossible for me to find a suitable job with my degree from NEU. Also since when can you do a PPE major?!!!
