University Finance Club Committee- Are some roles looked down on?

Hi, I go to a target school in the UK and in two weeks our finance society which is sponsored by many large banks is having an election. I was considering going for Head of Events which means I will be in charge of the largest student socials. Some people have told me that this may be looked down on by banks as it is associated with alcohol? Is this true as I thought it showed good skills etc.

This is a fine role, for interviews you do need to think how to spin it into more tangible experience than organizing parties (can talk about any team members you manage, budgeting, arranging vendors, whatever).

In the US this type of role is common with fraternities, you need to know how to talk about it without mentioning alcohol or partying but you do get good experience. Also, being the finance society I think people would be less likely to automatically think about alcohol.
