Unsolicited offer for a paid advisory board position
Random guy I have never met before cold emails me saying that he thinks I would be an "excellent candidate" to serve on the "advisory board" of his company. Claims that I would even be "compensated" for serving on his board.
I looked up the company on LinkedIn and the company has a profile but it's very sparse (generic description of the company, no employees other than the guy who cold emailed me, etc.)
To be fair, the company could be a brand new startup, but everything is telling me this is a waste of time at best (if not a complete scam)
Thoughts? I'm thinking of just sticking to the old adage "If it's too good to be true..." but perhaps I'm being too cynical?
No, you're being smart. How could he know that you're an "excellent candidate" to serve on his board if he hasn't met you or even interacted with you? Trust your gut.
