UPDATE! WashU Olin vs UT BHP (Somewhat Urgent, 7 days left Till Decision!)
Hey all,
Please refer to my previous post for more details. Now, I'm quite happy to say that I've received scholarships to cover for tuition for both BHP and WashU Olin! In addition, to uncover some more details, I've also been previously admitted to UT's joint Business and Comp Sci honors program (CSB) and WashU's Business + Comp Sci (BuCS) program. The costs at this point are quite similar, with WashU maybe just a bit more expensive (but not by much) due to university housing being more expensive.
NOTE: WashU's scholarship is only guarenteed for the 1st year of attendance. It may go down afterwards depending the changes in my family's financial situation. UT BHP's scholarship is guaranteed for 4 yrs though.
What do you guys feel now? As some details about me:
- I'm borderline introvert/extrovert, so I kinda like WashU somewhat nerdy atmosphere, but also UT's smaller circle environment with the honors programs. However, I want to try to break away from being more introverted, so maybe spending time at a more lively place could help. But also definitely not a greek life/partying guy.
- The dream is obviously working on Wall Street (haha, generic), but I'm still open to looking to a lot of other places
- My main goal was originally going into IB, but I've also started to look into areas of PE, consulting, and maybe even stuff related to entrepreneurship or fintech, and they seem like fine areas to be in too. So definitely not wanting to limit my pathways here.
- Prestige matters a bit to me, but honestly I feel that, if I can land good enough jobs, good enough connections, and good enough experiences, I can try to gun for a prestigious MBA
- Weather does not really matter to me
Last few things:
- I've heard that WashU, for placements, is all the rich kids. Would building a network with them be a potentially high return thing to do, if I go?
- For WashU, I'm in the BuCS program, which doesn't actually let you double major in finance. If I just had a Business/Comp Sci. major, how well would it work for the banks? WashU also makes it very flexible to get out of the program so if I need to, I can switch to just finance, or double major Comp Sci /Business (but less opportunities that the program would provide).
