Upper Middle Market Private / Growth Equity

Hello everyone,

I've been searching forums pretty heavily on this site but haven't found much on this topic. I will be joining a technology group at an upper middle market bank i.e. Jefferies, Houlihan, and RBC. Due to prior opportunities, I am extremely interested in private / growth equity within the software and the internet space. So I have a few questions in terms of the recruiting process:

  • Who are the top UMM/MM private / growth equity funds in the U.S.? Since there are a ton of LMM shops, I completely understand that it's too hard to narrow down. Note: don't have access to CapIQ or any other platforms that would allow for a screen on such funds.

  • What are the differences between UMM / MM / LMM private or growth equity excluding the size of the fund? Does your overall experience differ? Will you receive carry earlier or later depending on the size of your fund?

  • Are there any good free resources to learn more about growth equity?

Any help on this would be great. Thank you!
