URGENT Advice from Canadian
Hey guys, I need some help big time,
Long story short, went to a school in the UK that's highly ranked (like real high) thinking it would give me an IB/HF/PE opportunity in London or my home city....think north of New York
Anyways, as it turns out, no recruitment happens at my school, and its rep isn't too good in London (for those who recognize it) and virtually non-existent in my home city. (Its ranked highly due to none finance fields)
Here's the Predicament.
I got into ALL the Canadian "Big 3" for undergrad business, with scholarship.
I'm wondering whether I should just cut my losses and start over again at one of these schools (re-apply from high school using my high school grades----- I understand most can't do this by my situation allows it) I've only completed one year abroad and if I did some summer schooling I could end up graduating with my friends, but graduating a year later than them doesn't bother me (I can learn from their mistakes).
OR
Should I apply to Ivey after 2nd year for their transfer HBA? Would coming from an elite school help me even if my average is like a 75-78? (First two years in UK schooling don't count to GPA so I haven't really killed myself to get 90's first year).
I want to be at a school where my hard work in high school and then in uni work will be recognized. If I do decide to switch over, what schools would u recommended? Q or I? S? Are these schools (in Canada) really as well received as I've been recently led to believe?
Thanks guys, I'm in a real mess, any advice is greatly appreciated.
What do you mean by a highly ranked UK school? All the highly ranked UK schools have strong recruitment in London (Oxbridge, ICL, UCL, LSE...even Warwick)...unless you're talking about Edinburgh or something
And yes, definitely try the transfer route to Ivey or any other business school in the US/Canada that accepts transfers...no point giving up a year of your time for no reason. Not sure if the "starting over" route is even allowed.
Have a look at the recent rankings and ull get an idea of where I'm talking about. lol no I wouldn't consider Edinburgh highly ranked. I'm also referring to Richard Ivey Bussiness school, not the Ivey League
really confused as to what school this would be. ranked really high but not recognised? :/
I can't post a link because I haven't been a member long enough, google guardian UK rankings and that should give u a clear picture
p.s I promise I'm not some delusional goof from Manchester
if you're talking about st andrews or bath or bristol or some shit, you're also being delusional the only targets in the UK are oxbridge, kings, lse, imperial, durham and warwick
anyway, i'd really recommend starting over to get the clean gpa
plus UCL
i'm really wracking my brains in trying to figure out where you go
actually i bet you go to st andrews
assuming you go to st andrews, let me tell you right now: st andrews is shit tier they take a lot of foreign and american students to boost diversity and the amount they take in for tuition you're an idiot if you went all the way to another country just to enroll in that ponzi scheme
Now we're talking. I wouldn't call it disillusion tbf. Misinformed? As early posters have argued, how can a school often find itself high in rankings, yet not be a target? (If you have an idea as to why that'd be appreciated). This reasoning led me to choosing a poor school I guess.
Anyways, if its one of those three suggest opting out?
you need to figure out what your grades will be converted into if you transfer if you're going to canada, make sure you go to IVEY, unless you're asian, in which case you should give queens or mcglil some thought

I would highly recommend transferring to a CAN School - both Q and I have great recruiting programs that can get you into any of the Canadian banks and many of the elite boutiques and a few BB in the states. A 78 might cut it if you have an awesome/interesting story, as I have seen recently both schools emphasize a little more on creating a more diverse graduating class.
I know a few transfers that switched over to Ivey a year late that are now graduated, and they are all glad they made the leap. I would also recommend switching to Ivey, Queens emphasizes a lot of the financial courses in the first two years, with the last two years kind of trailing off and becoming more flexible in what you wish to take. Ivey on the other hand puts huge emphasis on your HBA1 experience, and it is really the only thing that any banks will care about. Puts the pressure on, but if you are game for it you can really take advantage of the opportunities.
I've got no insight on UK schools but from my experience, we see materially more Ivey resumes than other schools in eastern Canada (I work in Calgary). The students usually seem well prepared and you wouldn't lose a year.
