Useful macros for banking

Hey guys

Im preparing for when i start full time in a EB this summer

Im fairly new to macros and VBA but i heard it could be useful for some things in excel like:
Conditional formatting checks for:
- Net income PL flowing correctly to the cash flow statement
- Balance sheet balancing
- Anything pulling data etc..

Is there anyone with experience who can confirm that macros are useful for such stuff? and if so, is there anywhere to learn this or just straight up get ready-to-go macros?

Thx

The VBA macros that will be useful are mainly to automate repetitive shit, rather than doing actual calculations. A common one I use is a loop script that runs through scenarios in a model and pdfs outputs for each scenario. Lately I've been using a model that has 100 separate identical sheets for different assets within a broader project, the macro deletes then re-copies the master sheet if anything needs to change on the template - a huge time saver. You will pick it up over time, it's not that hard once to learn the basic principles of VBA which you can do on any number of websites/free online courses.

In my team we use macros for 2 things mainly: - pulling data from bbg (betas and multiples basically) - anything repetitive in models such as debt sizings

For the second thing you can also use the goalseek option in excel but it just depends on the analyst/associate. We have a really good associate who is very efficient at coding VBA and he wants us to use macros, also, my team is a very technical one and I can confirm that other teams in my M&A group do not use macros whatsoever
