Using Offer as Leverage to Get Super Day?
Hi guys,
So I ended up getting an offer to one bank, but really don't want to be working there. I just finished a bunch of first round OCR interviews this past week but have not heard back from a lot of them, but I felt that I did pretty well on a lot of them.
I have another week to accept my offer, but was wondering if I should email HR or my interviewers letting them know of my offer and using it as leverage to give me a super day or speed up the process? I was told by some though that it's not a good idea for first round as it may push/rush them and make them decide to not give me a super day due to inconvenience. Would greatly appreciate any advice out there. Thanks!
Have not been in your exact situation, as the offer I received was one that I was seriously considering, but when I contacted banks saying that I had an exploding offer they accelerated their timeline. A week isn't a lot of time though considering you only just had your first round, so I wouldn't recommend it. A better strategy might be to contact the bank you have an offer with and ask if there's any way that they can extend their timeline, since it's fairly early in your recruiting process.
Hey, thanks for the advice. Just to clarify, did you let them know you had an exploding offer before you even got a super day and then they accelerated their timing and gave you one?
Yes, after my second round interview I told them that another firm had given me an offer, but I only had a week to decide. I asked them if there was any way that I could accelerate the recruiting process with them since I really like their team. I think you have to feel out the situation. In this case I could tell from the first two rounds that they were keen on having me, so I was fairly confident they would move up the timeline. Worst case scenario I liked the first firm that gave me an offer so I would've just gone there. You've only had first round interviews and you don't want to work at your backup so it's trickier.
You should absolutely let them know since if it increases your candidacy as well especially if you were on the fence at some firms and offer in hand at a reputable bank gives you leverage. Definitely use it.
When do people usually hear back from first round OCR interviews? I had two on last Tuesday and Thursday. Haven't heard back from any of them. Will they let you know even if you are not selected for 2nd round?
Idk, it varies, but usually its a quick turnaround. I heard from one bank the same night after I interviewed, but some other banks I haven't heard back yet despite feeling I did really well. Some banks will let you know if you didn't make it, but its not a priority and will send out the rejeciton way later through HR
