Using paper for impact financial statements questions

Hello monkeys,

My question is simple: in interviews, when asked the standard "Walk me through the impact of XXXXX on the 3 financial statements" is it okay to ask for paper and pen and do the calculations outloud or should I just say it looking at the face of the interviewer?

If you have done interviews, did you care?

thx!

I did both depending on the complexity of the question. If the interviewer asked a question using $10, $20 or $100 with a 40% tax rate, I would do it in my head and walk through my calculations out loud so they can hear my thought process.

If the interviewer asked how $22 of depreciation flows through the statements with a 33% tax rate, I would do it on paper (this was rare - happened maybe twice in all my interviews I've ever had).

Whenever I used a pen and paper, they were cool with it because they understand what questions merit this.
