UVA Math major vs Virginia Tech BIT, and UVA Recruitment

Hello everyone,

I used to be class of 2022 at IU Kelley school of business, but in the fall, I had to medically withdraw. Once I got home, my parents told me I would have to transfer in state, so I applied to some schools, and to my luck I was able to get into UVA as a math major class of 2023.

Now, I don’t think I would be able to get into the McIntire school. However, I also was accepted to Virginia tech as a business it major, and I also saw tech has some placement programs to Wall Street such as SEED and BASIS. Would I be better off going to uva as a math major or tech’s business school? Also, how is recruiting at UVA for non business school students?

UVA, even non-business majors, is much better than Virginia Tech. Recruiting begins sophomore spring now, which is before kids even start McIntire

With how early recruiting has become, in addition to the fact that you don't enter COMM until your 3rd year, the difference between UVA Econ and COMM recruiting is very minimal.

However, comparing Tech and UVA Econ recruiting, its night and day. There are very few opportunities for ANY bank at Tech if you're not in BASIS/COINS/SEED, and its much easier to come out of the process empty-handed.

tldr: Tech is a non-target and UVA Econ is a Semi-target

Considering that I did not get my offer until the fall of my third year and what I was told by my interviewers, I can say from direct experience that being in the Comm School played a significant role. Moreover, I think the Comm School's destination report would suggest that the Comm School is a full-fledged target, albeit not a "super target." Needless to say, it varies bank by bank, but I think it's fair to say that UVA is probably the most well-represented school at my MM firm. The majority of these alumni were in the Comm School. So I disagree that the difference between UVA Econ and the Comm School is minimal, but I fully agree with the rest of your post.
