Valuation analyst to Investment Banking
Hi,
I was wondering what the exit opportunities are for someone working as a valuations analyst at a firm like Duff & Phelps or BRG (Berkeley Research Group) and how hard will it be shift to investment banking? As the valuations work experience helps improve financial modelling skills and might be involved in providing fairness opinion, I am guessing that an analyst there would still have a shot at IB jobs? Any thoughts or advice would be highly appreciated!
Thank you!
You're in a great place if you want to hop to an ib shop. Emphasize the transaction experience and fairness opinion projects that you're on. The purchase price allocations/common stock valuations/goodwill impairment tests, although good experience, are much more accounting focused and kind of a turnoff for bankers. Good luck
Thank you so much!

how plausible is a lateral to BBB or top MM investment bank?

I am in a similar spot at a smaller valuation firm (not as big as duff or HL).
How likely are my chances to break into MM or BB?
Should I target any particular coverage group or product group?
Same situation!
Any advice will be helpful.
