Value of Booz Name? (Booz Summer Games Internship)

Hey all,

I'm a junior at a non target with 4 internships completed and a decent gpa- I've been networking hard over the last 4 months and have a bevy of referrals at some of the bigger name shops (MBB + ATK/LEK), but I was wondering about Booz in particular.

I have someone at Booz who can offer me their 'Summer Games' internship, and I was just wondering if there is still value in the Booz name for FT management consulting recruiting for next year given that Strategy& was bought by PwC.

Let me know if this is worth considering/if it would be looked upon as favorable to MBB/similar firm for next years recruiting.

Booz is definitely a solid name to have on your resume going into FT consulting recruiting. That said, if you can land a gig at MBB, ATK, LEK, etc. for this summer that's obviously better. Personally I didn't find the Summer Games to be all that interesting because it's more data science work than actual management consulting. So if you do end up at Booz for the summer make sure you're networking like crazy and studying cases all summer so you're prepared to jump ship for FT.

Sources: I interned at Booz two summers ago and leveraged it to get an internship at MBB this past summer. Also have a friend who was at Booz last summer and he has interviews at two of MBB for FT this fall.

thanks for the response!

so im currently interviewing for 2 of MBB and ATK/LEK (for their internship spots)- which really only happened due to a crazy amount of networking this past summer

I'm just trying to hedge my bet incase it all goes bad- I'm not sure if you could speculate on this, but would you take the Booz internship over EY Risk/Capgemini MC/Apple Finance? (If my singular goal is to get into MBB FT)

I only ask because I have those offers standing atm, and dont want to ask a longterm family friend to help me with Booz only to say no to one of the options I already have

Congrats on the interviews! You sound motivated so I'd be surprised if you don't end up landing on of those MBB, ATK, or LEK spots!

In the event that you don't, I'd say Booz is the best of the list you outlined. It's still recognized by MBB managers/recruiters as a very reputable name in consulting, more so than the others. That, however, is just my opinion. Realistically if you were at say Capgemini this summer you could still network into MBB etc. interviews.

They have summer games teams at most Booz offices in the U.S. IIRC. The offices are most densely concentrated in VA/D.C., but the regional offices are also dotted around the country near military bases/major cities. The heaviest competition for a spot will be in those D.C. offices and the regional offices tend to look for kids who are from their respective areas, but it actually doesn't hurt to apply to every single opportunity as the recruiting (at least in my case) was handled independently by each office.

Most career opportunities will be in VA/D.C., but you'll have the opportunity to network with people at other offices to see if they will have a need for a person with your specific background when you graduate. Being in Hawaii would actually be really cool and I can't see it hurting your prospects later as long as you network/perform well.
